"Stories" an art exhibition by people with mental health issues
On the 14 of January an exhibition containing the works of people with mental health issues - "Stories", was opened at Pauls Stadins museum for history of medicine. The goal of the exhibition is to dispel the myth that people with schizophrenia are dangerous to the society and must be isolated, at the same time showing the original which makes this art unique.
Doctor. Soldier
To remind the society of the often forgotten war doctors, their difficult and life endangering work on the battle field, Pauls Stradins Museum for history of medicine will reveal the exhibition . "Doctor. Soldier. 1st world war and Latvian freedom fights" on the 5th of November at 16.00.
One of the main tasks for a doctor is and always will be to help people and save their lives. The doctors of today have modern and equipped facilities to work in, back then it was the battle field where the doctors performed their duties. The purpose of the exhibition is to honor the work of the doctors of that time and their contribution in the establishment of independence of Latvia.
The exhibition shows different medals and rewards handed out to Latvian doctors, nurses and other medical staff. Also on display different wartime surgical and dentist kits, bondage material, drugs, weapons, grenades, fractions removed from bodies, gas masks and different prostheses.
The exhibition was made thanks to the State Culture Capital Foundation, the Medicine museum partisanship association, Latvian War museum, Museum of the Occupation of Latvia as well as individuals. Special guests, at the premiere . the folk group "Vilki".
On the 14th of November, during the event "Riga shine", themed tours will be organized and a first aid help classes performed.

Pauls Stradins museum for history of medicine opened a new exhibition on the 1st of October called "Corpus alienum . the alien in your body."
The exhibition is a monument to those people who have inserted, swallowed, shot and surgically inserted things in their body due to carelessness, stupidity, freedom, health and any other reasons.
There will be different foreign bodies on display, which have been removed from the intestinal canal, respiratory organs (pipes), urinary bladder, after surgery. The visitors will be able to see X-ray images of a thermometer in the urinary bladder, coins in the vagina, bullet in the head and pellets in the bottom.
Also visitors may view objects that are inserted in to the human body by doctors, like joint prosthetics, endoprotheses of the penis, cosmetic prostheses of the eye, balloons that are inserted in the stomach for losing weight.
It will be possible to learn first aid if objects get in the breathing pipes. And real silicone implants will be on display and the visitors will be allowed to touch them.
Museum working hours during holidays
April 30th the museum will be open for visitors from 11.00 till 18.00
May 2nd - 11.00 till 17.00
The museum will be closed to visitors on May 1st, 3rd and 4th.
