J. Primanis Museum of Anatomy




The museum was founded in 1920 as the learning museum of the Latvian Institute of Anatomy. Since July 1987 it is a government museum, thus an affiliate of the Pauls stradins Museum for History of Medicine.
The mission of the museum: to gather, preserve, research and popularize the key sectors of medicine - the historical evidence and intellectual value of anatomy, research the development anthropology in Latvia and the Baltic as such, and be part of the anthropometrical research with the help of historical comparing and evaluating.
The specifics of the museum are targeted in medicine which is why the work of the museum is directed mainly towards specialists of Latvia and abroad - scientists in medicine, as well as the illustration of different medical subjects and a healthy lifestyle to students of medicine and pupils of comprehensive schools.
The museum offers a themed excursion by highly qualified specialists, with preliminary agreement. The museum is visited by approximately 11000 visitors each year.
