The Museum of Prof. Aleksandrs Biezins




This museum was founded in 1987 and is located in the region of Madona in Sarkanu rural district in the "Jaundilmanu" house. It is the place where the personality of this excellent professor started to develop.
Aleksandrs Biezins graduated from the Latvian University faculty of medicine with excellence. After graduation he began his career in the children`s hospital where he remained loyal his whole life. That is why he is considered to be the founder of children`s surgery in Latvia.
His whole life he was accompanied by children and youngsters, that is why the museum is designed as a place for a family to visit. A wide front yard, paintings with the nature scenery of Vidzeme are inviting the visitor to spend some quiet time out there. The exhibition reflects significant facts of Prof. A. Biezins life. The most notable exhibit in the museum is the highest award for work in surgery - the golden scalpel. The professor paid special attention to the physical development of children and youngsters, founding the institute for Physical education and sports medicine. He was also the doctor of the Latvian basketball team.
The main goal of the museum is to conserve the memory of Prof. A. Biezins and to introduce visitors with his contribution to children`s surgery in Latvia.
